LANDCOM’S ‘PRINCE HENRY AT LITTLE BAY’ WINS PRESTIGIOUS PREMIER’S AWARD
Visionary master developer Landcom have been awarded the 2008 Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) Premier’s Prize. The winning project was the Prince Henry Masterplan for its coastal community Prince Henry at Little Bay.
The accolade was presented as part of the annual NSW Premier’s Public Sector Awards on Saturday 19th July, commemorating excellence in projects that deliver enduring environmental and social benefits for its residents and visitors.
Landcom managing director Sean O’Toole said the award confirmed Landcom’s impressive credentials in the field of masterplanned urban development.
“We see Prince Henry as a proud achievement for Landcom in our goals to deliver visionary urban design, with the ongoing cultural and community benefits of paramount importance,” Mr O’Toole said.
“Landcom’s vision for Prince Henry was as a spectacular coastal community that would showcase the best in social, environmental and economic sustainability. For this to happen, we needed the masterplan to reflectthe site’s rich history, heritage, architecture and unique geological significance in our masterplan.”
The Premier’s Public Sector Awards especially recognise projects with multiple constraints and limited budgets. The Prince Henry site presented Landcom with complex political and architectural challenges and community concern. Landcom’s thoughtful and innovative masterplan delivered a new residential and community precinct that balanced abundant open spaces, modern architecture and heritage buildings, creating a flagship of sustainable coastal urban renewal and a place of renown for future generations to enjoy.
Prince Henry at Little Bay is the only master-planned residential community in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and remains one of the most significant urban renewal projects in Australia today.
